Wisconsin GOP primary election coverage. August 20 Wisconsin GOP primary election coverage.
August 2022 for @nytimes

Within the last month, in Wisconsin, I had the opportunity to cover a few statewide Republican campaigns, a Trump rally, and primary Election Day. This group of photos is just a sampling of some of the coverage, but more specifically and once again, more about the former president’s success and influence on another state’s gubernatorial race. Trump endorsed candidate Tim Michels, a wealthy business man. Michels went on to win the GOP race against former Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, who was supported by former Governor Scott Walker and former Vice President Mike Pence

In a story written by NYT journalist Reid Epstein, he explains - “During the primary, Mr. Michels, 60, subscribed to some of Mr. Trump’s most outlandish conspiracy theories about the 2020 election. He pledged to consider signing legislation that would overturn Mr. Trump’s defeat to Joseph R. Biden Jr. in Wisconsin and withdraw the state’s 10 electoral votes — a move that has no basis in state or federal law. But on Tuesday night, Mr. Michels did not mention the 2020 election or the state’s voting laws — an issue that just last week he said he was “very, very fired up about.” — ‘Wisconsin Republicans Embrace Trump in a Race Defined by 2020 Grievances’ - published on August 9, 2022 @reidepstein

Thank you @jeremiahbogert for the opportunity to be part of this coverage. 📸

Revolution Workshop, Cohort 11. Chicago, June 2022 Revolution Workshop, Cohort 11. Chicago, June 2022.

Today is the graduation day for Cohort 11 at Revolution Workshop. Revolution is an amazing organization that works with young adults to build job skills through construction training and job creation. I’m always so inspired by each group, this group was particularly fun! The excitement and pride at graduation is palatable every time. I want to personally wish them all so much greatness in the future, they deserve it!

Will Oldham, Ox-Bow School of Art and Artists' Res Will Oldham, Ox-Bow School of Art and Artists' Residency. July 9, 2022 [part 4, musicians that performed in Saugutuck, MI]

Will Oldham’s music has meant so much to me since I was about 18 years old. I had a mix cd that I would walk every night to, around and around a neighborhood in Waukesha, WI - one very lonely summer. I had never heard anything quite like it, his voice, the lyrics, the musical expression so unique and unconventional, I was instantly taken deep into every song. So, needless to say, it was pretty stunning to be present at such a beautiful and intimate outdoor environment to listen to him perform. He started his set with “New Partner” - which to this day is one that makes my heart skip a beat. The sun had set quickly after his set and I had just a moment to make a grainy little portrait of him on the pier at blue hour … and in my head I was still humming …

“There's a black tinted sunset with the prettiest of skies. Lay back, lay back, rest your head on my thighs. There is some awful action that just breathes from my hand. Just breaths from a deed so exquisitely grand. You are always on my mind. You are always on my mind.” - New Partner by Will Oldham.
Bill MacKay, Ox-Bow School of Art, July 9, 2022 [p Bill MacKay, Ox-Bow School of Art, July 9, 2022 [part 3, musicians that performed in Saugutuck, MI)

Bill MacKay was one of the last live performances I saw before we went into Covid lockdown years ago. He played on New Years Day 2020 at @thestorehousemi . The technique and fluidness in which Bill plays is hypnotic to watch and to listen to. That day, I remember leaving feeling so inspired and excited for the year to come. Of course little did I know, it would be one of the last little musical gifts that I would have to grasp onto for a long while. Getting to hear Bill MacKay play in this setting just a few weeks ago was just as inspiring as it was all those years ago, perhaps more. The wind picked up during his set, rustling the leaves gently above, and he flowed with it almost as if it was a welcomed planned accompaniment to his compositions. Thank you Bill!

Damon Locks and Rob Mazurek, Ox-Bow School of Art. Damon Locks and Rob Mazurek, Ox-Bow School of Art. July 9, 2022 [part 2 of musicians that performed in Saugatuck, MI)

Damon and Rob are both legendary Chicago musicians, composers, and visual artists. They have led or co-led numerous brilliant music groups both together and separately, including - Exploding Star Orchestra, Chicago Underground, Third Coast Ensemble, Black Monument Ensemble, The Eternals and many more. At Ox-Bow they performed just the two of them - they delivered unique, energetic, and mesmerizing music to the audience - the compositions mixed Rob’s multiple trumpets with handfuls of bells and Damon’s samples and sound mixes with moments of poetry and spoken word blended in. My job is not one of a music writer, so it’s probably best you somehow experience their phenomenal creativity, skill, and innovative music for yourself!
